Exam 30 minutes oral exam. Both Hirtl and Kuess present via Zoom and they will both ask from their respective parts.
Questions:
- Draw depth dose diagram of photon, proton, and carbon. (follow up questions: why is there a build up region for photons? which has broader peak between proton & carbon? why carbon doesn’t have sharp falloff compared to proton (fragmentation tail)?
- Describe the interaction of heavy particles with matter? What equation describes this? And what are these implications? (follow up questions: what is the most important term in the blethe-bloch equation? When is the energy minimum? draw the blethe bloch diagram and whats on the axes)
- What influences the depth of bragg peak? (follow up questions: how would you slow down the proton?)
- Explain the basic principle of particle therapy PET (follow up: what is the trajectory of the gamma photons?)
- Xray energy for bones in X-ray image. Which energy is better 60kV or 1MV and why?
